New Years Romance at Wasing Park

Mattie and Lincoln flew over from Australia to marry at Wasing Park on New Year’s Day. With their closest friends and family, this was truly a magical, festive celebration.

The Venue

Living on the other side of the world, Mattie and Lincoln were looking for a beautiful venue where they could host their entire day and where they could spend the night along with their guests. “We don’t get to see people very often, so it was important that we could all stay overnight and enjoy breakfast together in the morning.” The happy couple came across Wasing Park and knew it was the place for them.

“We loved the accommodation and the proximity of the Garden Room to the Castle Barn. But, most of all, we loved the beautiful, rustic style, the uniqueness of the rooms, the stunning bridal suite and just how perfect the Castle Barn was!”

Design and Décor

This romantic couple set their wedding date for New Year’s Day and focussed on a Christmas reindeer theme. “Linc proposed to me on a magical trip to Lapland where he had organised a reindeer sleigh trip, so reindeer are always going to have a special place in our hearts!”

Purple and silver were chosen as the key colours and fabulous decorations included fairy lights, chalk board signage, tea lights, bunting and even a snowflake projector!

For their wedding breakfast at Wasing Park the couple chose a festive purple and white themed wedding table plan.

Table centres were a stunning combination of candles, mirrors and purple flowers floating in tall vases.

“We sent each guest a little wooden reindeer with their invitation and asked them to decorate it and bring it back on the day. These were used to decorate one of the Christmas trees.”

Bridal Style

Mattie chose a gown by an Australian designer under the Maggie Sottero line, finding it while on the lookout for bridesmaid dresses!

“I literally tried on one dress and it fitted perfectly. I loved the diamante detail and the way it laced up at the back. The most stressful thing was getting it from Australia to the UK in my hold luggage!”

Meanwhile, Lincoln looked the part in a bespoke black suit and waistcoat. Mattie’s four bridesmaids wore long purple dresses with faux fur shrugs while the flower girls looked adorable in ivory dresses with cardigans.

All About Flowers

Mattie carried a teardrop-shaped bouquet in shades of purple with orchids, roses and eucalyptus leaves. “It was lovely having a large bouquet. I gave it to my grandmother during the speeches and it made a beautiful centrepiece in her home afterwards!”

The bridesmaids carried ivory posies with hints of purple while Lincoln’s buttonhole was a deep purple and lilac flower to co-ordinate with the bridal bouquet.

Moving inside, Christmas trees were the perfect seasonal alternative to traditional floral arrangements. “The trees were decorated in purple and silver. We also had uplighters in the trees outside as so much of our wedding was after dark!”

Order of the Day

Following their romantic humanist ceremony in the Garden Room, mulled wine and canapés were served. Moving to the Castle Barn to dine, a starter of crispy duck salad was followed by roast English lamb and cheesecake. “The cheesecake was divine! We also had mince pies with coffee and enjoyed our wedding cake later in the evening, along with a cheeseboard.”

Creative Cakes

The three-tier stacked cake featured sugar flowers and adorable sugar squirrels – perfectly in keeping with the rustic look of the day. Fillings included chocolate, fruit cake and delicious caramel.

Evening Celebrations

As day turned to evening, the party continued and a homemade photo booth (complete with Polaroid camera and a multitude of props) was a huge success with both adults and children!

The newlyweds took to the floor for their first dance to ‘All My Life’ by Thirsty Merc and an amazing live band was set to delight, playing great classic tunes to fill the dance floor.

“The Events Team were just fantastic both with the planning and on the day. They made sure everything ran smoothly and helped co-ordinate changes in plan, including how to get across to the venue when the weather was awful!”

Memorable Moments

“For us, having children at the wedding was a real highlight. They are just so carefree… they did funny things that removed any possible stress!”

“Not everything went 100% to plan, but nothing mattered. It was all part of the experience. It would have been nice if it hadn’t been raining – but in retrospect my favourite photos of the day are some of the ones with umbrellas!”
