Kate and Matt's real life wedding at Wasing Park

Kate and Matt - July Wedding

Matt proposed to Kate. Matt took flowers and champagne to their hotel room at the Crab restaurant at Chieveley in the morning. "We both enjoyed a meal at the Crab in the evening and then went to the Thailand Suite where Matt got down on one knee and proposed. It was a big surprise and after the proposal we enjoyed champagne in the hot tub!" Kate and Matt had a traditional wedding with a brown and pink theme.

The Venue

Kate went to see a few venues but fell in love with Wasing Park after she went to look around. When Matt saw it, he loved it too and from then on it had to be Wasing Park!

The Outfits

Kate wore a stunning Suzanne Neville, strapless, A-line dress in traditional ivory. The dress was worn with a diamond necklace and earrings. The bridesmaids wore brown, three-quarter length, strapless dresses with a pink sash and matching brown shoes. To accessorise they each wore a pink pearl necklace and earrings. Kate's flowergirl was her 14 month old niece who wore a cream dress with a brown sash.

Matt and his groomsmen wore brown suits and shoes with cream waistcoats. In their buttonholes, they wore a cream orchid, except Matt who wore a pink phalaenopsis orchid. Kate's bouquet was a drop of pink phalaenopsis orchids and her bridesmaids had hand-tied cream orchids.

The Flowers & Decorations

The church entrance was decorated with lanterns and scattered rose petals, whilst inside they chose simple flower arrangements with plenty of orchids and as little greenery as possible. For the table centrepieces, there were fish bowls and tall vases, on alternate tables, containing pink hydrangeas and pink phalaenopsis orchids. The foyer had floating candles with rose petals, whilst outside, Matt's Mum arranged lavender and roses in terracotta pots for each table. The top table was on one side of the room, with circular tables arranged around so that everyone could be equally involved.

Favours & The Cake

Matt plays rugby, so they gave each of the male guests chocolate rugby balls in small cream top hats, whilst their female guests were given pink or brown nail varnish in small bags, as Kate owns a beauty salon. Their cake was a lovely three-tiered circular cake simply decorated with a few sugar orchids. The tiers were fruit, vanilla sponge and chocolate sponge.

Comments

When asked what was the best part of the day, Kate says "The ceremony was the best part of the day, but we had such a lovely day that it's hard to choose a favourite part. The vicar was lovely and helped us through the day. We really enjoyed being able to walk in the private garden after the ceremony, to spend a few minutes by ourselves." We also asked Kate if she had any tips for future wedding couples "Make sure you take enough time to enjoy the organising and then the big day itself. It's easy to get swept up with all the organising and forget what you're arranging. It's your big day and you can't please everyone, so make sure you please yourself! It's your day, so be selfish!"
